100 KM SEREGNO WORLD CHAMPIONS
Giorgio Calcaterra (Italy) is confirmed on the roof of the world with the American Amy Sproston.

Seregno  4/22/2012   The 100 km Seregno World Championship closes with two big names : Giorgio Calcaterra and Amy Sproston. The taxi driver from Rome and the American athlete have conquered the world title at the finish-line in Via alla Porada, Seregno. The Italian champion, after a start where he managed to keep under control the most fearsome opponents for the final victory, he went for the decisive attack during the third session of the the 5 planned in the 20 km ring. Calcaterra, along with the Spanish Cuevas  and Alberico Di Cecco formed a trio who claimed an enviable average, while behind them, from the main group emerged the Swedish Buud. The runner  from Rome, during the fourth lap, moved away from Di Cecco and then also from Cuevas. During the last lap Di Cecco and Cuevas were taken from  physical fatigue  facilitating the triumph of Calcaterra, while behind them the comeback of the Swedish Buud was completed with a silver medal. Third place for Alberico Di Cecco. Calcaterra's performance, he completed 100 km in 6:23 20, reflected positively on the overall performance of the Italian team that, also thanks to Daniel Palladino, 16th place, won the title of Team World Champion, followed by the U.S.A. representative and the French team.The Female title of the World Championship went to the American Amy Sproston, after a tough battle, she closed her 100 km of Seregno in 7:34 08. On the second step of the podium the Swedish Kajsa Berg, a little more than a minute more then the world champion and gratified by the victory in 21st IAU European Championship. Third place for the young  Russian Vishnevskaja Irina, not yet 20 years old. In the (Female) Team Competition the United States of America arrived before the Japanese team and the Russian representative. Fourth place for Italy, second in the European ranking.In the Gelsia Half Marathon (Male), Luca Merighi from Ginnastica Comense arrived with the time of 1h 09m 18s, followed by Paolo Pizzato and Gennaro Piermatteo. In the Female Competition great confirmation for Noemi Gizzi who won hands down under the finish line in via Alla Porada in front of the many viewers that have colored the day of the World Championship of Ultra Marathons.
